Nicole Kidman becomes an evil taxidermist with a burning grudge against talking bears in the new big-screen version of Paddington.
What’s this? Our exclusive picture shows Nicole Kidman as bear-baiting villainess Millicent Clyde in the new Paddington movie. This is the first official image to be released of her in the film.
Paddington… as in the Paddington Bear books by Michael Bond? The very same. A cuddly, accident-prone CGI bear joins a cast of very human actors in this live-action comedy.
What’s the story? Raised in Peru, Paddington comes to London with high hopes and a ‘please look after this bear’ note around his neck. A kind family takes him in while he searches for his Aunt Lucy’s explorer friend.
What’s so scary about Nicole then? She is described as a ‘cold-hearted yet elegant and seductive taxidermist’ who carries a grudge against talking bears – ever since they ruined the reputation and fortune of her father. No doubt she has her beady eye on our Paddington…
Who does the voice of Paddington? Good question. Originally it was Colin Firth but he left the project, saying: ‘It’s been bittersweet to see this delightful creature take shape and come to the sad realisation that he simply doesn’t have my voice.’ The boyish tones of replacement Ben Whishaw may work better.
Who else is in it? Downton’s Hugh Bonneville plays Paddington’s host in London’s Primrose Hill, while new Doctor Who Peter Capaldi also appears alongside turns from Sally Hawkins and Julie Walters.
Does it look any good? Yes – the trailer is surprisingly funny, promising giggles for adults as well as kids. Imagine Mr Bean with fur.
When’s it out? Friday, November 28.
