The Cinema Society & Altoids, with the Weinstein Company, hosted an intimate screening of Richard Ayoade’s wry coming of age romance “Submarine” last night in lower Manhattan. Executive producer Ben Stiller (left) showed up in support of Ayoade (right), introducing him to the audience as a “one of the great self promoters of all time.” With that, Ayoade took to the stage to debunk any high hopes the audience had for his feature directorial debut. He was kidding. The critically acclaimed film has already garnered a massive amount of buzz following its buy by the Weinstein Company out of last year’s Toronto International Film Festival. It select theaters June 3rd.
Stiller and Ayoade later moved to The Vault at Pfaff to sip on Moet with the night’s invited guests. Among last night’s attendees: Noah Baumbach, Christine Taylor, Griffin Dunne, Jason Schwartzman, Christopher Meloni, Russell Simmons, Aleksa Palladino (“Boardwalk Empire”), Shenae Grimes (“90210”), Peter Bogdanovich, Charlie Cox, Nora Zehetner, Albert Hammond Jr (The Strokes), Amanda Setton (“Gossip Girl”), Olivier Theyskens, Grace Coddington, Sally Singer, Anna Sui, Erin Heatherton, Jessica Perez, John Demsey, Celine Rattray, Sam Shaffer, Daniel Benedict, Genevieve Jones, Bettina Zilkha, and Cinema Society Founder Andrew Saffir.
